This is 2020.

Happy New Year!  This is indeed 2020 and the beginning of something new–as I said on Facebook, it’s time to begin again (referencing not one but two songs that I love — “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons and “Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls).  December was a quiet month here on Patreon for me, but that was because it was a crazy month for me outside of my writing life between finals and overtime at the store.  January is a time to start fresh with a new year, new projects, and new goals–ambitious goals, but goals nonetheless.

If at least some of them aren’t ambitious, what’s the point, really?

Goals (old and new)

  • Finish UNSETIC Files: Lost and Found.  This one is not a new goal, but definitely something that’s on this year’s to do list – the project has been a long time in the development and writing.  It’s time to finish.
  • Finish Awakenings Book Seven…and probably time jump once it’s done to a whole new era of the Awakenings story.  Book Seven hits the end of their first year and the beginning of the second.  It’s time to take a giant leap forward…and see what happens.
  • Revisit my other serial, Legacies of the Lost Earth, which I had to stop writing due to time and brainpower constraints a while back.  I just didn’t have the bandwidth to push forward with it.  Time to see what I can do with it–even if it’s just getting some plans pulled together and some editing done for a print edition of the first book.
  • Speaking of print editions, there are at least four more Awakenings books that need their rewrites, reworks, and edits to publish as both print and electronic books unto themselves (thanks to my endlessly supportive family for the fuel and the tools to embark on projects like that–and the means to document them).
  • Storyboard more of the Epsilon universe’s trajectory from its nascent beginnings in the twenty-first century of Earth through the final war with the Preytax centuries later.  The notes began yesterday when I wrote at least five pages of random information plus dialogue snippets after dinner.
  • Storyboard more of what needs to happen in the UNSETIC universe–and how many of the plots and counterplots of the big bads in the universe fit together.

New Projects

  • Explore some ideas for “side trips” in various universes, especially the Epsilon universe, UNSETIC universe, and probably the Awakenings universe.  Most of the universes I write have spaces for smaller tales and vignettes that don’t constitute a full book.
  • Write a little mythology for one of my writing partners for our shared fantasy world (no, Lauren, I have not forgotten about them, I promise).
  • Think about a podcast.  Open to suggestions, as always.  Most people know I have a love affair with knowledge, especially historical knowledge, in addition to my love affair with writing, science fiction, fantasy, and select games.
  • 365 Days of Writing Prompts – one full year of image prompts (already started, as everyone here can see!)

Old Projects

  • Finish plotting and finish writing at least a skeletal draft of Wonderland.  I know how it ends and it’s lovely.
  • Finish the current draft of When All’s Said and Done and then start reworking it since there are definitely pieces that need fixing.  I need to stop letting those pieces that I know need fixing stop me from finishing the monster that’s been more than a decade and a half in the making (starting from its first draft with that decade and a half as my first NaNoWriMo project ever).
  • Figure out the full story arc of Pawns and get a skeleton together.

That’s going to be it–for now.  As if it’s not enough, right?  But things always change–new projects always rear their fair heads and inspiration strikes in the strangest ways.
