Prompt for January 16, 2014 – Day 16

Happy Thursday–only two work days left in the week if you’re like me and have a MTWThF day job.

Today’s prompt is a new one, partially inspired by my dearly beloved sister-in-law Natalie, who we joke about wanting to be shipwrecked or otherwise trapped with simply due to what can be found in her purse.

Prompt type: Toolbox

  3. Dental floss

Epsilon Universe extra – Wil and Ren

Epsilon: War Stories coverFor NaNoWriMo 2013, I started working on a collection of stories and scenes out of the Epsilon Universe entitled Epsilon: War Stories.  In the midst of working on this project, I ended up writing some scenes that take place during the same period as Epsilon: Redeemer that might never make it into anything else.

The following scene is from Ren’s point of view, and it’s a pivotal point in the evolution of her relationship with Wil after the events of Epsilon: Broken Stars, so if you don’t want spoilers of any flavor for Broken Stars or Redeemer, don’t click below the break.

Prompt for January 12, 2014 – Day 12

Happy Sunday, folks!  A new type of prompt today.

Prompt type: Rewrite a scene from a historical document

Prompt:  Reimagine the scene below however you’d like.

He walked for five miles away from Dorchester
And came to a hilltop very high and beautiful,
Where he fell on his knees in prayer calling continually upon God
For Him to avenge him on the accursed people
Who had dishonored him with their harmful actions.
Our Lord heard his voice reaching into heaven
And set down his vengeance on the wretched people
Who had hung sting-ray tails on to the clerics:
Those tails were stuck on to them, and for this they can be derided;
All that tribe were disgraced: they all had little muggles,
And in every household people called them ‘mugglings,’
And every gentleman says foul things about them…

Selection is from Lawman’s Brut, translated by Rosamund Allen. New York: St. Martin’s Press, 1992.
