Chase me down a rabbit hole: Podcasting

It’s finally time for me to stop procrastinating, buckle down, and do the things.

At least right now that’s what I’m telling myself when it comes to this because someday isn’t going to cut it anymore. It’s time.

Instead of just gathering ideas and intending to someday start a podcast, I’m actually going to concretely start to figure out how to do this, plan it, and get rolling.

And if you’re reading this, then you’re about to get the option to chase me down this rabbit hole of figuring out what the heck I’m doing.

Pink, lined sticky note with a handwritten list.
"For podcasting...
- How to start
- Format? Cadence?
- How the heck do you do notes?
- Tools and software
- Distribution
- Research planning
- Sources and resources
- What else??"
A list of things to figure out, currently stuck to a page in my literal “Crazy Ideas” Denik notebook.
Have I mentioned Denik makes great notebooks? Because they definitely do.

So to summarize the picture, I’ve got a few things I need to figure out, possibly in that order, maybe a little here and there and everywhere out of order.

  • How to start a podcast (basics)
  • What format should I set up in? What kind of cadence do I want to do this in? Monthly? Biweekly? Send help.
  • How the heck do you do notes? I know they’re a thing but I’ll admit that for the several podcasts I listen to…I’ve never actually looked at their notes. So expect probably something where I’m doing that for the first time (and apologies to anyone who’s not into an array of podcasts that includes Ultra, And That’s Why We Drink, Lore, and the Murdaugh Murders).
  • Tools and software to use – I’ve already got a nice mic thanks to a Christmas gift back when I was really starting to first think about doing a podcast (thanks 2020) but I’ve barely played with it and I’m also fully aware that I’m going to need some kind of audio recording and editing software for this, among other things – because there are always other things.
  • Distribution – uh, how do I get this to the world? Where do I stick it? I imagine that this will be in some ways similar to ebook channels, but we’ll see.
  • Research planning – because I need to. I really, really need to.
  • Sources and resources – this is really a catch-all but it’s going to be about all the things.
  • What else? I don’t know yet because I’m still not sure what I don’t know.

So stay tuned, I guess, buckle up, strap in, load up, and get ready.

Because down a rabbit hole we’re going to go.
